June 19, 2020 is the last day, Chief Justice Bart Katureebe is in office.
He retires June 20, 2020 from Judicial Service. Starting June 21, 2020 Deputy Chief Justice Owiny-Dollo will be the acting CJ.
While addressing his staff for the last time at the CJ’s Chamber Friday, Bart, as his peers call him, said he will be coming to Kampala as a visitor, save for the Supreme Court where he has 3 months to complete an assignment.
“I have retired and I am going home. I want people to see that you can retire and go home. I will be coming to Kampala as a visitor, and may be to the Supreme Court where I will have three months to finish my judgements,” he said.
He also revealed that the appointing authority is yet to name his successor.
To that, Owiny-Dollo sill starting Sunday be in acting capacity.
“The Deputy Chief Justice (DCJ) will be acting from Sunday, because I technically leave on Saturday 20th June midnight. After that, I will not be able to sign anything as Chief Justice,” he said.
It remains to be seen who and when the substantial CJ will be named.
