Dr. Salim Al-Malik  in Uganda to discuss Afro Arab bilateral ties

The Director General of Islamic World Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), Dr. Salim.Malik, arrived  in Uganda to discuss and strengthen the bilateral ties between Uganda and Arab countries that has lasted for the last two decades. He was received at Entebbe International Airport by Hon. Dr. Abbas Agaba , the Secretary General of Afro Arab Youth Council, Uganda.

Hon. Abbas Agaba said his visit  to Uganda  is part of the week’s celebrations to mark the  20th Anniversary of the partnership between  Afro Arab Youth Council Uganda and the Islamic World Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO).

In his first address upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, Dr.Salim Al-malik, revealed that Uganda is a peace loving country and a member of the Organization of Islamic World Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), and that his visit to Uganda symbolizes the peaceful relationship enjoyed between African countries and Arab countries.

“I am here to sign a memorandum of understanding (M.O.U) between African countries Uganda inclusive and Arab countries. Uganda is known for peace and this should be replicated by many other countries,” said H.E.Dr. Salim Al-malik.

The Secretary General of Afro Arab Youth Council Uganda, Hon. Dr. Abbas Agaba, believes that Dr. Salim Al-malik’s visit to Uganda signifies total unity between Arabs and Africans in terms of social network , culture, and peaceful co-existence.

“The anniversary week started in 2004 in Khartoum with support of Leaders then and the people. In Uganda,  it took center stage in 2008 and the people of Uganda asked for the construction of Afro Arab council headquarters in Uganda. The President of Uganda who is the patron of the Afro Arab Youth Council donated 50 hectares of Land to construct it’s headquarters that will house an office block, University of Science and Technology, a hotel, cultural heritage center and a stadium.

“The Afro Arab council is premised on uniting factors between Arabs and Africans in terms of social network, culture, and peaceful co-existence. So our focus is to build unity as much as possible,” Dr. Abbas disclosed.

“We have over 100 delegates and on the first day two speakers will address members of the Afro Arab Youth Council at Makerere University. Prof. Roland Lumumba ,the son of the late Patrice Lumumba, a renowned pan-Africanist,  will be among the key guest speakers on that day.  During the interaction session senior people will be able to interface with young people and will share their experience , success stories and challenges.”

On Tuesday the delegates will visit people with mental problems at Butabika hospital , on Wednesday will visit Kyabazinga of Busoga , Thursday for a tour , on Friday will be part of international women’s day celebrations in Katakwi district and finally on Saturday will hold a memorial lecture at Islamic University in Uganda Kabojja female campus in honor of the late Prof. Patrice Lumumba. 

“The international delegates will leave money behind in terms of spending . Ugandans should know that by hosting these International delegates we harness opportunities like scholarships , professional jobs and business linkages. In the event we successfully mobilize money for the construction of our Headquarters, this would be a real opportunity for the young people.
