EAIAC goes online with focus on fraud and corruption in arbitration, among others

The East Africa International Arbitration Conference (EAIAC) Committee, in partnership with GBS Africa, I-ARB Africa and W&Co|Law+Policy, is to host the 8th East Africa International Arbitration Conference (EAIAC).

EAIAC 2020 was due to take place in Zanzibar, however, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event will move to an online platform on August 27-28, 2020. It will be held under the theme, “Disruption in African Arbitration”, organizers say.

Known for its unrivalled thought provoking agenda and thrilling networking opportunities, this year’s online event will offer even better opportunities to meet and network with other arbitration community members.

The conference will attract delegates from private investors, government departments, legal practitioners, judiciaries and arbitration professionals.  “We shall hear from expert speakers drawn from both the public and Private sectors. We have had the honour to host Attorney Generals, Government Ministers, and arbitration professionals (both regional and international) in the past,” organisers say.

And according to Steven Owuor, Projects Manager GBS Africa, Topics of Discussion will include: Africa’s blue economy and opportunities for dispute resolution; Africa-China investments and trade post Covid-19;The AfCFTA, the WTO and the future of trade dispute settlement; and The Climate Agenda and trends in disputes.

Other topics to be discussed are: Dispute areas in Islamic Investment and Islamic Finance; Trends in African BITs and investment arbitration; Fraud and Corruption in Arbitration; Technology and digitization in arbitration and virtual hearings; and Adapting commercial arbitration rules to emerging trends. Attachments area
