Today, in celebration of #WorldEarthDay, Housing Finance Bank reiterated commitment to planting 1 million trees by 2027 — a pledge rooted in hope and growing a greener future.
This initiative supports our ESG goals and aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals — especially Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and Goal 13 (Climate Action). By promoting green spaces, enhancing biodiversity, and boosting climate resilience, we’re taking real action for people and the planet.

The Banks Head of Marketing and Communications, Doreen Nyiramugisha, emphasized: “At Housing Finance Bank, we believe that sustainability must go beyond policies—it must be planted in the soil, rooted in action, and nurtured with purpose. Our three-year, one-million-tree planting project is a pledge to future generations—a reminder that even the smallest green spaces can grow into mighty legacies.”

This year under the theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” we are committed to planting over 1 million trees by 2027—a bold, tangible step toward environmental sustainability under the HFB Tiny Forest initiative. In partnership with schools like Buganda Road Primary school, local councils and community leaders, these trees will form thriving ‘tiny forests’ across Uganda, nurturing a greener, healthier future for all.
To mark #EarthDay, the Bank is distributing 1,000 bamboo shoots (650 bamboo shoots to staff and 350 to customers) promoting both individual and collective responsibility in protecting our environment and shaping a more sustainable Uganda. Why bamboo? Bamboo produces 30% more oxygen while removing more than 3 times the carbon from the environment, it is fast growing (under 5 years), requires low maintenance and is a superfood.

“At Housing Finance Bank, we believe that creating lasting environmental change is not the responsibility of a single individual. That’s why we have collaborated with Greening Africa to drive meaningful, collective impact.”
At the launch event, the Greening Africa Board Chair, Ajiri Olga, emphasized that real change begins when we take action. Through this tree planting initiative, we are not just planting trees—we’re planting hope for generations to come.
Assistant Commissioner for Forestry Issa Katwesige, highlighted Housing Finance Bank’s initiative as a key step in restoring our natural ecosystems, especially within urban environments.
“We commend this bold and visionary move toward a greener Uganda,” he said.
