The Leadership of National Unity platform ( NUP) in Entebbe Municipality has accused their counterpart of the National Resistance Movement of using security agencies to deface campaign posters for their aspirants at various elective posts.

Speaking to reporters at a news conference held on August 12,2025, in Entebbe Municipality, the downtrodden members of the National Unity platform faulted security agencies of siding with their counterpart of National Resistance Movement to frustrate NUP candidates vying for different political posts by removing their campaign posters during night hours.

Furious MP hopeful Lillian Babirye, said it’s so absurd  that the army is involved in partisan politics yet Law doesn’t permit  the army to engage in partisan politics except to defend the country from external aggressors or enemies. She added  that by defacing opposition campaign posters it’s like the perpetrators are trying to show that only NRM exists in Entebbe whereas this is untrue .

NUP’s Babirye has threatened revenge by painting black all campaign posters for NRM candidates in the event the army continues to pluck off their campaign posters.

” Enough is enough and it’s now the right time to defend ourselves.  We are tired of seeing soldiers participating in partisan politics yet the Law prohibits them from this vice, “MP hopeful Lillian Babirye roared like an angry lion.’

The Entebbe Municipality NUP mayoral hopeful Richard Sekyondo expressed concern on the way soldiers are trying to suffocate their mobilization efforts and advised them to execute their duties in a professional  manner .

” We have vivid evidence that these soldiers allegedly ambush drunkards on their way to their respective homes and force them to climb trees and electric poles to remove banners and campaign posters for opposition candidates and replace them with posters for NRM candidates . It’s against this backdrop that I appeal to religious and cultural leaders , the electoral commission and human rights activists to reign into this matter so that the political ground is levelled for all political actors , ” Mayoral hopeful Richard Sekyondo sounded his appeal .’

The Entebbe Division ‘B’  LC3 Chairperson hopeful , John Socrates Mugabi said as political players in Entebbe Municipality , they are observing impunity and injustice allegedly perpetrated by armed soldiers who are busy involved in partisan politics .

In related news, the Leadership of National Unity platform in Entebbe Municipality has launched a campaign dubbed as ” Hands off my posters , Hands off my freedom ” to show their dissatisfaction on what they termed as political oppression.

When approached the Entebbe Municipality NRM spokesman, Edrisa Matovu Figo for a comment he dismissed the allegations saying NUP leaders are just spreading harmful propaganda with the aim of tarnishing the name of the UPDF. He added that the opposition has failed to recognize the strength of the NRM party in Entebbe after they lost in special interest group elections . Figo further said whoever has evidence to implicate NRM leaders should produce it before him and a big reward awaits him/her.
