Ex-Eskom managers arrested over corruption

Handcuffed Prisoner

Two former senior managers of South Africa’s struggling power utility, Eskom, have been arrested in connection with a corruption case worth more than $50m (£38m).

A number of other arrests were made, with seven companies accused of involvement.

The state prosecutor says the arrests follow an investigation into what it described as the gross manipulation of contracts related to construction projects at two power stations.

The state-owned firm, which provides 90% of South Africa’s power, has been implementing a series of blackouts in recent weeks.
