The former Regional CID Boss for Arua district, SSP- Wanitho Marcellino was laid to rest on July 4,2026, at his ancestral home village in Nabitete village, Luweero district, amid gun salutes from Uganda police force. The deceased died at the age of 72 and is survived with eight wives and over twenty-five children.
Commissioner of police Hajj Jamal Basalirwa who represented the Inspector General of police, Hajj Abas Byakagaba, described the deceased as a dedicated and committed officer who served the force from 1975 till 2017 when he retired from the force.
Hajj Basalirwa who handed over Shs. 2 million to the bereaved family said the deceased has left behind a good legacy and urged his children to follow his footsteps.
Hajj Basalirwa revealed that the deceased served in different capacities and in different parts of the country and rose through police ranks from a probation police constable to senior superintendent of police- a rank on which he retired at.
However, there was a state of sadness among mourners as pallbearers moved the deceased’s casket to the graveyard before lowering him in the grave which was later followed by gun salutes.
Meanwhile, the deceased died of severe hiccup after being hospitalized at Mengo hospital for months.
