Members of the Makerere University retirement beneficiaries scheme [MURBS] have been cautioned against indulging in reckless spending ventures as this may devastate and disrupt their lives as senior aging citizens.
The call was on Thursday made by George Mulindwa the investment manager at the GenAfrica Uganda Ltd an asset management firm during a special sensitization seminar for the MURBS members held at the Yusuf Lule CTF building under the theme ‘savings and investments; investing before and after retirement’.

The over 100 members were cautioned that they need to have strategic business plans which are critical in offering them guidance less they risk blowing up their hard earned incomes and ending up living a life of shame.
Mulindwa pointed out that having a guiding business plan is the best way the members can have such that they can avoid making reckless mistakes.
Dr. Jane Frances Alowo a retired lecturer at the school of languages and communication skills in Luo who was the guest speaker urged the members to invest in debt management skills as well as investing in building strong bonds with both family and friends such that in case they got challenges they can be bailed out.
‘We are all potential victims to making mistakes especially with finances but it is important that we acquire strategic debt management skills as well as build strong bonds both with close family members and friends such that they can cushion us when trouble escalates’ noted Jane.
Dr. John Bosco Kawongolo a senior MURBS retiree pointed out that he was able to invest his benefits in agriculture and currently owns a farm sitting on 100 acres of land on which he has planted a variety of crops which have helped him enjoy his retirement peacefully as he thanks God for the gift of life.
Kawongolo challenged his colleagues to consider investing in agricultural productivity but after seeking professional services such as status of the markets among others.

The members got new tips of mastering business venture skills such as debt Management and Emergency Funds, risk and return on investments, diversification and asset allocation as well as investment options among others.
They collectively commended the board of MURBS for availing them such an opportunity to learn new ideas as they venture into business during their retirement times.
