The Forum for Democratic Change party (FDC) party president Patrick Amuriat Obboi has joined their long-time political rival the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party to protest and reject the victorious outcome of lawyer Elias Nalukola for the Kawempe North by election.

While addressing the press at the party headquarter offices at  Najjanankumbi,  on Thursday afternoon the party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat said that they are not at any single point convinced with the results declared by the  electoral Commission.

Amuriat said FDC presented the best candidate amongst the contenders with all the characters of the Ghetto and everywhere else.

“Am not convinced that we (FDC) got only 239 votes,  that Aganaga’s votes were not stolen , we presented the best candidate amongst all with unique characters of the Ghetto”, Amuriat furiously stated.

Though not certain of the accurate tally, Amuriat added that Nakukoola’s declaration was ridiculous because a party of 20 years as a leading political party with structures to the grassroot can’t come back home with such meagre votes.

According to the registrar Makabayi Henry, NUP’s Elias Luyimbazi Nakukoola garnered 1,7764 votes, NRM’s Nambi Farida Kigongo got 8593 votes, Murerwa Hanifa Karadi (Independent) 381, Luwemba Luswa got 240 while FDC’s  Mukiibi Sadat also known as Aganaga was in the 5th position and got 239. Mutazindwa Muhammad (Independent) also got 186 votes, Kasacha Henry Mubiru of DP secured 100

Musitwa Ismail of People’s Progressive party got 39 votes, Nsereko Moses (Independent) garnered 32 votes while Obote’s son managed to collect 22 votes.

Upon the declaration, the NRM chairperson convened an emergency Central Executive Committee (CEC) that resolved to run to court to contest the NUP’s victory claiming the election was marred with rigging, violence and ballot stuffing.

According to NRM’s Secretary General Richard Todwong, most of the Opposition Politicians ferried in people from areas outside Kawempe with the sole purpose of disrupting the election and causing havoc.

“We were cheated during the Kawempe North by-election and the group was led by One Saudah Madada, an NUP foot soldier. People were ferried from areas of Makindye with a deal distorting the election and causing havoc” Todwong said.

Todwong added that NUP party Members spearheaded by a one Sserubiri Charles, a Deputy Speaker and Mayor Emmanuel Serunjonji, Kawempe Division were bribing Presiding Officers, returning officers as well as deploying other rigging tactics including obtaining more than a Single ballot paper paving their way to Victory.

“Am happy and delighted that our party has chosen the path of going to the Courts of law. I have spoken to several learned Friends and they indeed confirm that we do have solid grounds for nullification of this sham process that we witnessed on The 13th March 2025”  Todwong added.

In the same vein, NUP’s Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya says their team of lawyers is as well ready to face off with whoever shall dare to petition for their victory.
