The Bukonzo County East Member of Parliament in Kasese District, Hon. Harold Tony Muhindo asked his constituents to find other alternative means of generating income than waiting for the funds under the Parish Development Model which he said would not benefit everyone.
The legislator sounded the challenge while officiating at the Trade Fair and Exhibition for the Organic Crops in Kisinga Town Council.
The Trade Fare and Exhibition was organized by the members of Great
Lakes Organic Farmers’ Association with an aim of promoting farming
that does not involve the use of toxic fertilizers and pesticides.
Muhindo explained that some people in the area are not seriously
involving themselves in some productive activities because they are
waiting for the Parish Development Model Programme.
The legislator also encouraged the farmers to opt for organic farming
in order to prevent cancer and other related ailments.
Charles Thembo Kahitisan, the Chairperson Board of Governors for
Great Lakes Organic Farmers’ Association observed need for the Uganda
National Bureau of Standards to regulate the varieties of drinks
currently on market in order to minimize the risk of acquiring
diseases.
However, the Kisinga Town council Local Council III Chairperson,
Doviko Thembo noted that much as people are looking forward to
engaging in developmental activities, the area faces challenges
related to theft which discourages the public from working hard.
