Gulu Elderly Woman killed by Wild Fire

Grief has engulfed residents of Paromo Gwengdia village in Awach Sub County, Gulu District after an elderly woman was on Saturday evening burnt to death by a wild fire.

Atto Clementina aged 80, met her death at around 3; 00 pm when she had gone to check on her garden of peas after seeing a wild fire burning close to her garden but only to be burnt to death by the wild fire.

Her body was discovered at around 3; 30pm by local residents, about 600 meters from her home.

This comes less than one week after a 65 years old man, identified as Thomas Ouma, a resident of Palukere village in Opara Sub County in Amuru District was on Tuesday 3rd January, 2023 burnt to death by wild fire while heading back to his home.

Oyet Kenneth Odong, the Councilor Five Awach Sub County said the deceased body was discovered at around 3; 30 pm, 600 meters from her home.

He said the body was retrieved by the community and police were notified about the incident as they launch investigation into the cause of fire and the people behind the setting of the fire.

By Press time Police in Gulu district were yet to issue a statement on the fire incident while body was at deceased home pending postmortem.

This now brings to three cases of death by wild wife in the last two weeks.

According to the police annual crime report 2021, police in Acholi sub region recorded 252 cases of arson in the region in 2021.
