Gunmen kidnap Kanungu man, cross into DR Congo

Six gunmen have kidnapped a man in the Western district of Kanungu, The Second Opinion reports.

Eria Byarugaba, a resident of Bushoro village, Kihembe parish was kidnapped on Wednesday night near IShasha river on the DR Congo border.

Two of his friends; Naris Twinomuhangi and Frank Kanywani escaped unhurt.

The escapees told police in a statement Thursday at 11pm in Kanyashande village, six people armed with an SMG rifle, a panga and a spear, waylaid them using a rope before intercepting them.

The trio was traveling in a motorcycle when they were attacked and one of their colleagues taken by their attackers.

They are suspected to have crossed to Congo to a nearby Nyamitembe village, Buganza parish, Binza sub-county in Rushuro district.

The police are yet to make positive progress in the matter.

No communication has been hard from the other side.

The attackers are using French to communicate.

A matter Vide CRB 482/2019 of Kanungu has been filed as investigation into the incident continue.
