Songstress Jackie Chandiru who was known to be battling the effects of drug abuse has come out to declare that she is now in good health and focused on her singing career that had come to a halt due to drug addiction.
Chandiru, a former member of the defunct Blue 3 girl group, has a new song “The one” which she says is a love melody that she did with Musician Arrow Boy. Talking to Capital Radio presenters Gaetano Kagwa and Lucky Mbabazi, Chandiru who is out of the country said she doesn’t miss her homeland right now, further reminding her haters to mind about their own business.
Chandiru who first came in the limelight with Cindy Sanyu, Lillian Mbabazi as Blue 3 did not have kind words for Ugandans who lambasted her on social media platforms after learning of her drug addiction problems. She said that abuses and criticisms on the social platforms almost forced her to change her name to a new one. “I wanted to change my name to probably Nalumansi,” the girl from West Nile said, sending deejays Gaetano and Lucky into uncontrollable laughter.
When asked what advice she could give to other musicians that have challenges of drug addiction, Chandiru who at one time was once engaged to prominent Kampala lawyer Caleb Alaka, urged the drug addicts to seek the services of professional counselors, saying it is not easy to fight drug addiction without help.
After the break-up of Blue 3, Chandiru, like her former partners, went sole with her singing. She would later declare she had received Jesus Christ in her life as a personal saviour as drugs took control of her life. She was later forced into rehabilitation again as the challenges of drug addiction tortured her.
Chandiru in the past released songs like ‘Gold digger’, ‘Agasi’, ‘Going on’ and ‘Wind it up’.
Chandiru got married to husband Nol Van Vliet. The two got married in a private wedding back in 2015. The couple had a rocky love affair mostly due to her drug addiction. Her husband initially took her for rehab but in 2017, after two years in marriage, they separated but they are now living together.
