Position: Assistant Accountant Revenue.

Reports to:Principal Accountant.

Duty Station: Kampala.

Description of purpose: To ensure that all classified adverts are invoiced, revenue is accurately recognized on a timely basis.

Key Result Areas:

· Complete & accurate recognition of classified revenue.

· Following up unbilled adverts & preparing query reports daily to help in clearing queried adverts.

· Monitor long running orders to ensure they are not overrun.

· File the official papers daily

· Prepare make good & error report.

· Prepare monthly supplement report & special project report.

· Prepare daily complimentary reports.

· Attending to the sales team concerning all information needed.

· Preparing monthly activity report.

Qualification & Experience

· Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Accounting option or Bachelors of Business Administration.

Technical Competence.

· Good knowledge of accounts

· Good communication, customer care & interpersonal skills

· Ability to use Navision & CIO accounting packages

· Good in Microsoft word & excel

Position: SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS (2)

Reports to: Digital Services Supervisor

Duty Station: Kampala.

Description of purpose:

To develop and maintain applications that will drive digital transformation for Vision Group.

Key Result Areas:

· Produce clean, efficient code based on specifications;

· Integration of software components and third-party programs;

· Verify, test and deploy programs and systems;

· Version Control;

· Problem Solving;

· Troubleshoot, debug and enhance existing software;

· Recommend and execute improvements in processes;

· Continuous performance whilst working under pressure;

· Ability to scope smaller elements of work within a project;

· Ensure quality of work including peer reviews.

Qualification and Experience:

· A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or a relevant field.

· 5 years of relevant work experience.

· A minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 5 years’ prior work experience in Software Development (working with multiple programming languages and frameworks)

· Excellent knowledge and experience with at least 1 object-oriented programming language (e.g. Java, C#, C++, etc.) and working experience with multiple other programming languages.

· Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, their complexities and their implementation (e.g. Trees, Graphs, Sorting algorithms, Big O notation)

· Experience in the design and use of relational databases (e.g. SQL, PostgreSQL)

· Experience in more than one software framework (e.g. Spring, Django, .NET, Angular)

· Experience with the complete software development lifecycle, i.e. from developing a proof of concept to supporting the finished project.

· Experience with a testing framework (e.g. JUnit, Mocha, etc.)

· Experience with continuous integration and devops tools (e.g. Travis, Docker, TeamCity)

· Experience with version control (preferably git).

· Experience performing code reviews for team members.

· Experience with different software architectures (e.g. MVC, Micro services)

· Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.

External Job Advertisement for the Vacancies of Agricultural Inspector and Information Technology Officer in the MAAIF Department of Crop Inspection

 

The Mission of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries is to “Transform Subsistence Farming to Commercial Agriculture”.

The Ministry seeks to eradicate interceptions for its horticultural exports including flowers, fresh fruits, and vegetables to the foreign markets and to reduce presence of the harmful organisms and high chemical residues among food crops sold to the citizens of the country.

In order to address this, the Ministry has found it necessary to expand its Human Resource capacity by urgently recruiting inspectors and one (1) Information Technology (IT) Officer on contract terms to beef up its existing work force.

Applications are now invited from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill 20 vacant positions for Agricultural Inspectors and one (1) Information Technology (IT) Officer

Job Title:                                AGRICULTURAL INSPECTOR

Key Functions/Duties

The incumbent will be responsible to the Senior Agricultural Inspector in performing the following duties:

• Inspect and certify compliance of the plant and plant products to laws and regulations
• Inspect plant and plant products moving in international trade
• Carry out interceptions/destruction and re-exportation of prohibited/rejected plants and plant products
• Perform preliminary pest and disease detection and pest exclusion at entry/exist or inspection point and enforces quarantines
• Inspect and verity seed agricultural chemicals imports
• Issue phytosanitary certificates
• Inspects plant during active growth, plant nurseries and plant products destine for export
• Carry out surveillance/monitoring of quarantine pests at entry/exit points and along the border
• Supervise prescribed phytosanitary treatments
• Collaborate with other agencies at entry points (Customs, UNBS, Police, Civil Aviation)
• Carry out internal and open quarantine

Academic Qualifications:

1. An Honors Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture/Crop Science or any other closely related discipline from a recognized institution or university.
2. A post graduate qualification in any of the above fields from a recognized Training Institution is an added advantage;

Key Functions/Duties

The specific tasks of the IT Officer will include:

1. Lead the design, implementation and maintenance of the department ICT based platform
2. Monitoring and controlling service level of systems networks and other related hardware suppliers and overseeing acquisition of required hardware and software
3. Working closely with departmental staff, and relevant authorities to review existing ICT facilities and Identify priority areas that are relevant to the department of crop Inspection and Certification
4. Generate, automate and produce operational reports and management information adhering to defined templates and ensuring compliance with information security protocols.
5. Deal with systems queries and process requests in relation to problem solving, systems configuration and technical faults,
6. Maintain and support users through a help desk service
7. Assist with processes relating to systems upgrades, including reviewing release notes, formulating and running system tests, troubleshooting among others
8. Assist management of the system as required in terms of documenting and configuration of systems, functionality of data processing and process flows, add, remove or update user account information and resetting passwords.

Person Specific qualifications

Academic Qualifications:

The following specific qualifications are required:-

1. An honors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Information Technology or Information Communications Technology (ICT)
2. A minimum of 3 years of in establishment/ maintenance of ICT platforms.
3. A valid professional certification in system and database administration is an added advantage.
