Political leaders from the greater Kampala Metropolitan Area [KMA] have urged the Equal Opportunity Commission [EOC] to intensify sensitization campaigns on climate change mitigation measures among their ranks given that they yield a lot of power and influence among their respective communities they serve.

The call was made Friday by Mukiibi George the LC2 chairman Nansana West parish in Nansana Municipality Wakiso district during submission of resolutions at the closing ceremony of the two day Gender and Equity training on climate change adaptation workshop organized by the commission.
The workshop that brought together senior staff members of the commission and Local council leaders drawn largely from Ghetto communities within the flood prone Metropolitan area communities.
The training presided over by the Uganda Metrological training school Entebbe covered topics such as concepts of weather,climate and climate change,gender and Equity in climate change, climate change adaptation strategies for vulnerable persons.
Other were building resilient livelihoods, and climate change mitigating strategies for vulnerable persons,
In their joint resolutions to the government, the stakeholders called upon the government to include LCs in strategy issues concerning climate change given that most residents stay in disaster prone communities which are likely to cause destruction of both property and lives.
They were sensitized about the need for communities to collectively consider seeking development partners who can support investing in community insurance cover against disasters such that the victims can be compensated as well as advocating for better housing,insurance road Network and health care insurance with healthcare facilities fully equipped with climate change related medications.
The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) two-day Gender and Equity training workshop at Makerere University, focused on integrating gender perspectives into meteorological training for climate change adaptation.
