Kenya CJ, UNAFRI Boss in the country to deliberate on legl matters affecting member States

The Chief Justice of Kenya and the Chairperson of United Nations African Institute for Prevention of Crime and treatment of offenders (UNAFRI), are in Uganda to discuss legal issues affecting member states. The two both from Kenya and Democratic Republic of Congo are here to ensure that there is equal access to justice among member states.

Speaking to media upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, Hon. Lady Justice Martha Koome, the Chief Justice of Kenya, noted that the periodic meetings of Women Judges under their umbrella body International Association of women Judges is so critical and helps to address  barriers to equal justice in addition to inspiring young girls to pursue the legal profession as a career.

Hon. Lady Justice Heriettta Wolayo, the President National Association of Women Judges-Uganda, revealed that such meetings provide a platform to discuss and even come up with possible solutions to tackle limitations to women participation in the justice system among member states.

John Sembuya Ssali, the Acting the Director for United nations African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders(UNAFRI), revealed that Rose Mutombo Kiese, the Minister for Justice and Constitutional affairs for Democratic Republic of Congo is in the Country to conduct interviews for the post of the director of UNAFRI which fell vacant 9years ago following the resignation of then substantive director.

Sembuya revealed that once a substantive director is installed, it would be easier for the 29 member states inclusive Uganda to effectively implement the United Nations Conventions and protocols which advocate for fair treatment of offenders.
