The police in Uganda are investigating circumstances under which a Kenyan gun and 29 rounds of ammunition ended up in a potato garden in Namasere Village, Bulesa Sub-county in Bugiri District.
Bulesa Sub-county is located along the Jinja-Tororo highway, and about 20 kilometres from the Kenyan border.
The gun, an AK47 assault rifle with KP (Kenya Police) inscribed on it, was on Monday recovered by authorities following a tip-off by residents.
Bugiri District Police Commander, Jeff Sebuyungo, told journalists at Bugiri Police Station on Thursday that they are yet to identify the gun holder.
“We are yet to discover who was in possession of the gun and our investigations are still ongoing. In the meantime, it will be taken to police ballistic experts for further analysis,” Sebuyungo said.
The DPC further revealed that the weapon had been wrapped in a polythene bag.
Sebuyungo urged the public to work with the police and other security agencies to report any suspected criminals to ensure that peace and security prevail in their area.
