Kidnapped school kids freed after parents pay Shs2m ransom

KANUNGU: Two children aged 13 and 10 kidnapped by armed men at the weekend have been freed.

Akim Nuwagaba and Ramathan Ayinamani all pupils of Ntungamo Primary School, Kanungu were freed Sunday evening following their Saturday afternoon kidnap at Bugarama cell, Munyaga parish, Binza Sub County in Kanungu.

Well-placed sources say their parents forked Shs2m in ransom.

“The victims have been released after payment of Shs2m to kidnappers,” a source said adding, “They are in good health.”

Security sources privy to the matter say the captor used strictly text messages.

“The strictly used text messages while giving instructions and negotiating,” a source added.

The pair are sons of Seth Bahati, a resident of Kyabuyorwa Upper Eastern Ward Butogota Town Council and was kidnapped a short distance away from their mother, Joselyne Ampeire from a rice plantation.

Their captors then crossed over to the DR Congo before engaging relatives for a ransom.

An investigation Vide SD Ref 10/20/7/2019 of Butogota is still continuing.
