Lumumba Salutes Media On COVID-19 Fight

NRM secretary general Justine Kasule Lumumba has commended the media for their Frontline role in dealing with the deadly Corona Virus.The ruling party’s honcho also saluted the medics and security forces for dillegently executing their duties to ensure that this virus doesn’t spread to worrying levels in the country.
“I am.grateful to the media and as a government we say a big thank you. You have done a great job in awareness creation through relevant information dissemination,” she said while appearing on National broadcaster UBC.Lumumba noted that the Media Houses have also been keen in countering false information related to the virus which she said has widely benefited the population. 
“I also want to thank health workers for their tireless effort in providing treatment and counselling services to those in different isolation centres. NRM government is committed to providing the necessary protective gears for all medics attending to suspected victims of Covid -19 and the patients” she assured.
Lumumba also commended the UPDF for setting up a 200-bed mobile hospital at Bombo barracks in preparations for the increase in the number of patients. She further hailed all security operatives for their involvement in the food distribution program.Lumumba’s recognition of the media however, comes at a time when most media houses are struggling to survive because of the current lockdown.And because most media houses are surviving on adverts, most businesses have now stalled with no operations. This therefore, has affected their operations hence a freeze in advert opportunities.Out if that situation, the media houses through the National Association of Broadcasters(NAB) are pushing government to extend a budget facility worth shs15bn per month to NAB so that this money can be shared among all media houses across the country. Uganda currently has 52 patients with no deaths.
