Mao Transfers Vetting Powers for DP Branch Parliamentary Aspirants to NEC

By Elijah Khisa

The Democratic Party president Norbert Mao has withdrawn powers which had been vested in the district and regional branches and assigned them to the party’s national executive committee [NEC] a decision which took immediate effect.

The decision was announced today 2nd September 2025 during a news conference at Balintuma road DP headquarters in Mengo were he also unveiled the new politicians he claims were fished from other parties.

He noted that with immediate effect the powers to select and accredit any aspiring DP parliamentary aspirant within specific districts including Kampala, Wakiso, Jinja city and Jinja districts have  been withdrawn from the district branches and now vested with the party’s National executive committee [NEC].

He reasoned that they had found out that the people who have been doing this job have become a big problem and rebellious to the party principles therefore the need to revoke the powers and hand them to the NEC as enlisted in their party constitution.

‘Any candidate aspiring to contest as an MP on the  DP ticket shall with immediate effect be selected, vetted and accredited by the NEC among the selected districts of Kampala, Wakiso, Jinja city and Jinja district because this is where the rebellious and party saboteurs have been based’ he observed.

He revealed that they would be returning to Mbarara next weekend for a NEC meeting where they would hold a strategic and tactical meeting to discuss the future of the party as well as open their new Isingiro party office.

He also welcomed any prodigal sons of the party to return home and contest in the forthcoming general elections without any problem because DP was their mother party ready to nurse their wounds inflicted on them by other parties which denied them tickets.

Meanwhile in a separate development the party communications officer Kennedy Mutenyo unveiled their new Kampala Lord Mayor Flag bearer Beatrice Nambi Mao who had been listed to compete with the DP party deputy treasurer john Bosco  Kamoga Muzanganda but stepped aside.
