Minister Mayanja tasks surveyors to work on their professional ethics and integrity to restore public trust

The State Minister for Lands, Sam Mayanja, has tasked all surveyors nationally and regionally to adhere to their proffesional ethics and integrity so as to restore public trust and also redeem the image of surveyors currently known for bad practice.

The Minister argues that in order to correct the image of surveyors his ministry has embarked on reviewing the  Legal and Regulatory frame work for surveying profession.

Addressing over 400 surveyors from East Africa member states who had convened in Entebbe,  Minister Sam Mayanja, noted that majority of surveyors go against professional ethics when serving the general public and called on for revision of the legal and Regulatory framework for surveyors to streamline their proffesion.

Minister Mayanja disagreed with members of the Institute of Surveyors of Uganda, who claim the surveyors Act is old saying it can only be old if it’s repealed and tasked them to tune it to fit the dynamics of movement of technological advancement and ICT.

The president of the Institute of Surveyors in Uganda, Dr. Nathan Kibwami, acknowledged lack of professionalism among practicing surveyors and called on surveyors among member states to desist from unprofessional acts so as to redeem the image of surveyors at  national and regional levels.

Dr. Kibwami challenged government through the Lands Minustry to review the Surveyors Act saying alot has changed over time and that this would help to eliminate fake and quack Surveyors.
