MP Alan Ssewanyana sent to Jail as Bobi Wine Protests Erupt

Makindye West Member of Parliament (MP), Allan Ssewanyana has been charged and remanded to Kitalya Government Prison.

He was charged at Makindye Chief Magistrates’ Court in a city suburb of Makindye on allegations of doing acts that are likely to spread infectious disease (coronavirus).

The legislator was charged alongside Robert Musisi, Ivan Wasswa, Maria Nabwase, and Issa Musisi, both his supporters. 

The five are accused of staging a campaign rally, which attracted a huge crowd of people, who did not adhere to the Ministry of Health Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).   

According to the prosecution, the accused and others still at large allegedly committed the offence on November 15, 2020, at Mulungu Landing site in Munyonyo, Makindye Division in Kampala.

BOBI PROTEST

Meanwhile, protests have erupted over the arrest of Presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi’s earlier arrest. Wednesday morning, Kyagulanyi was arrested in Luuka and detained at Nalufenya Police Station in Jinja. It is then that protests erupted with protestors demanding his release. Protests have been reported in Kira, Downtown Kampala, Jinja and Nateete among others.
