Bugiri Municipality MP Asuman Basalirwa is in deep grief following the death of his mother and brother in a double tragedy. The deceased have been identified as Kagoya Basalirwa and Mususwa Fahad (aged about 40 years) respectively.

Eyewitnesses told the Second Opinion website that the duo met their death at their family home at Bugodo Village, Namukonge parish in Kapyanga sub county, Bugiri district on Saturday afternoon.

Sources say the pair was returning from the garden when Basalirwa’s brother Mususwa stepped on a live electric wire that had fallen on the ground following a heavy downpour that felled power poles. “Mususwa stepped on the wire and got electrocuted. The mother then tried to rescue her son but unfortunately got electrocuted as well; it is a very big tragedy,” the eyewitness said.

By press time, the bodies of the deceased had been taken to Bugiri Hospital mortuary for postmortem ahead of burial as per Islamic customs.
