The first lady and minister of education and sports Janet Kataha Museveni have commended the leadership of the Mulago National referral hospital complex for its strategic gesture of donating land to support the expansion of program of the Uganda Institute of allied health and management sciences [UIAHMS] saying such gesture must be emulated by others.
The minister’s remarks were contained in her speech readout by the state minister for higher education Dr .Chrysostom Muyingo while officiating at the 17th graduation ceremony for UIAHMS at their sports grounds in old Mulago on Friday 21st November 2025 were a total of 871 students undertaking 23 different courses scooped certificates and diplomas in various health sciences related professional courses.
Dr Muyingo earlier laid the foundation stone for the construction of the mega institute twin projects including the proposed Senate building [state of art administration block] and the 11 storied classroom block complex to curb space shortage challenges respectively.
The development came to light when the institute Principal Rose Gumisiriza Naasali in her speech to the congregation reported that Mulago hospital as their immediate landlord since 1929 have donated a total of 1.7 acres of prime land around the institute in support of their expansion program of which development she applauded.
‘We would like to register our sincere thanks to the management of Mulago national referral hospital complex for their kind gesture when they donated a total of 1.7 acres of prime land towards our expansion program a development which we have received in high honor and esteem’ noted Nasaali.
She commended the office of the first lady for the continuous provision of both technical and strategic support towards the institute which currently has a student population of 3,759 by the close of September 2025 down from 691 last academic calendar year.
The education ministry permanent secretary Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda represented by the commissioner Health education training [HET] Dr.Safina Musene Kisu commended the institute for being a real centre of excellence in provision of high-quality health related professional training programs which have both equipped and empowered the graduating students with skills capable of enabling them become ethical and professional as they walk out of the gates of the institute.
Dr. Musene pointed out that those graduating must ensure they register to secure practicing certificates before going out into the field to serve and must as well remember to remain ethical and professional and avoid any acts that may contradict or compromise their work ethics.
She cautioned them to reject absenteeism, corruption, professional malpractices and mistakes but practice integrity, faithfulness to the patients they serve and God in order to command respect.
The deputy Resident City Commissioner for Kawempe division Kagenyi Lukka urged the graduating fraternity to go out and serve with a strong spirit of patriotism as well fight corruption at their new future work station because the government ahs hope in them.
He cautioned the citizens to participate in violence free political campaigns ahead of the January 15th 2026 presidential election as well as voting candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in appreciation for his good services to the country.
Best diploma students awarded included Adriko Godwill diploma environmental health sciences, Nansukusa Daisy Grace Diploma Orthopedic technology and Bogere William Diploma Medical Radiography.
Others are Ear, nose, throat and neck Nawaruho Levi and Namukasa Rashidah for health promotion and information among others.
