The president of the Republic of Uganda, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni May 14,2026 named Justice Moses Kaziibwe Kawumi as the newly appointed Deputy Chief Justice of Uganda. This was confirmed in a press release issued by the Presidential Press Unit (PPU) on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
The press release indicates that Justice Kazibwe’s name has already been forwarded to Parliament for approval, in line with the constitutional appointment process.
Similarly , President Museveni also appointed Her Worship Agnes Alum as the new Chief Registrar.
Their appointments come days after the Judiciary announced a grand plan to continue strengthen institutional leadership and improve the administration of justice across Uganda.
Justice Moses Kazibwe replaces Justice Flavian Zeija who was elevated to the position of Chief Justice following the retirement of the former Chief Justice Alphonse Owiny Dollo . Justice Kazibwe once approved by the parliamentary vetting committee, he will be responsible for supervising the administration and management of courts, including Court of Appeal and Constitutional Court.
While the Chief Registrar Her worship Agnes Alum once approved by parliament, she will be charged with overseeing the day-to-day administration of the Judiciary, in addition to ensuring the efficient operation of court processes countrywide.
Meanwhile, in a few days from now the parliamentary vetting committee will convene to determine the fate of the two appointed justices of courts of Judicature.
