President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today September 23, 2025 been nominated as the dully flag bearer for NRM in 2026 presidential elections.
The president who was in company of the first Lady Janet Kataha Museveni arrived in time before 10 am and was welcomed by top NRM honchos including Premier Robinah Nabanjja, His vice party chairperson Hajj Moses Kigongo and Speaker Anita Annet Among among other party officials.

Justice Byabakama declared Museveni a candidate on grounds that he had fulfilled all the necessary requirements including academic documents and nomination supporter lists.
Justice Byabakama Mugenyi in his declaration said: ” Being the returning officer for the nomination of Presidential candidates, I declare Yoweri Museveni Tibuhaburwa Kaguta, a duly nominated candidate in respect of the 2026 Presidential elections after having fulfilled the nomination requirements under the Presidential Election Act, chapter 179” he said.

In his maiden speech upon being nominated, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni said it is very important to convince Ugandans on the gains of the NRM government in the past years and what his government intends to do in his next term in office.
President Museveni said in his term that that is soon ending, Uganda’s Gross Domestic product has doubled from 34 billion USD to 66 billion USD.
“This is what we intend to do in this coming term and things are now much faster because we have everything we didn’t have in the past, we have electricity, roads, phones, educated man power, we have the peace- that’s why we are being flooded by more investments” he said.

The President also highlighted his next key priority areas including expanding free education in government schools, strengthening healthcare through consistent medicine supply, and ensuring safe water access in all villages. He emphasized the fight against corruption as central to sustaining progress.
“We need to ensure that all our population players get involved. The mass issues of health, education, safe water, and fighting corruption must be addressed if Uganda is to continue moving toward a first-world status,” he said.
Museveni further urged NRM media teams to showcase what he described as Uganda’s transformation since 1986, arguing that tangible evidence of change outweighs political rhetoric.
Meanwhile, later in the afternoon president Yoweri Museveni is set to address hundreds of his supporters at the Kololo independence grounds where he will launch his campaign manifesto.
Several people thronged Kololo Independence ground from all walks of life and Sironko district sent hundreds of NRM supporters headed by the area district woman MP flag bearer Asha Nabulo Mafabi .

By the end of today September 23,2025, two more candidates including Conservative Party’s Elton Joseph Mabirizi and Robert Kasibante of the National Peasants Party, (NPP) will be nominated.
