Museveni, Opposition MPs Disagree over GFA Aviation Solar Lights Contract

A conflict has erupted between President Yoweri Museveni and opposition leaders mainly from Bugisu over who should run the contract to install the solar led street lights in Mbale City The Second Opinion has learnt.

 Companies expressed interest requesting to take over the contract to install solar led street lights in Mbale city starting with Industrial City Division, a project that would cost over $ 14m dollars.

A source privy to information from state House  disclosed to this media house that president Yoweri Museveni expressed full support to one of the companies GFA Aviation Ltd  a Nairobi Kenyan based international company to execute the work.

According to information the president believes that the company being an East African based with the ongoing East African Community integration and looking at its profile and experience can do better work than the rest.

GFA Aviation ltd Kenya based company is headed by Danniel Baraza and had requested to light Mbale Industrial city roads with solar led street lights at a tune of $15M dollars .

According to information the company would set solar lights on roads in areas of Bukasakya, Mutoto- Bugema , Nauyo, Wanale among others.

However opposition MPs and mainly those in Kampala and Bugisu have rejected GFA Aviation Ltd to take up the contract on ground that though they qualify, they never put in a bid security as required by the law.

“Look the money they requested is huge cash, as a country we cannot just give out that money without a bid security” Nakawa West MP and chairman COSASE Joel Senyonyi told this media house.

Senyonyi who is also the spokesperson of NUP says that they have started investigating into the affairs of GFA Aviation ltd.

Together with some MPs from Bugisu, we have started serious investigations and we shall not allow president Museveni and his NRM party to waste taxpayers’ money paying GFA Aviation Company that never put a bid security while expressing interest to do business in Mbale city. MP Joel Senyonyi added.
