President Yoweri Museveni will this week meet leaders of the war ravaged Acholi sub Region for two days to find out why the region has remained poor despite numerous government intervention to end poverty in the area.
The two days meeting will be held between 23rd -24 Febracy,2023 at Kaunda Ceremonial grounds in Bar-dege-Layibi division in Gulu City.
Information obtained by The Second Opinion indicates that Among people expected for the meeting are Local Leaders, Resident District /City Commissioners , Commercial Officers , Agricultural Officers , Local Councilors , sub county chairpersons and members of parliament.
While addressing the congregation at Holy Rosary Catholic Parish Laroo-Pece division Gulu City on Sunday morning Richard Todwong, the Secretary General, the National Resistance Movement Party confirmed the President’s visit to the region.
According to Todwong, the president will spend two days meeting both local leaders and the community to find out why the region has remained poor despite billions invested in the region to fight poverty through different projects like Youth Livelihood, Emyooga, NUSAF, restocking and now Parish development Model.
He said the president wants to find out the gaps and problems why the projects are not helping so that they correct the mess for the community in the region to move out of the poverty they are grappling with.
A recent report by Multi-dimensional Poverty Index 2022, Acholi sub-region has been ranked as the sub-region with the second highest number of poor people in the country.
According to the report, 63.3 percent of people in Acholi sub are poor while the poverty rate in the region reduced just by 0.7 percent in the last one year.
