NAJJERA: Police rescue 6-year-old from torture, arrest woman

By Francis Otucu

The Police at Najjera Police Station are holding a woman for torturing a 6-year-old boy Tuesday night.

Sources say Penina Kukunda, 29, was arrested after a tip off.

“Last evening, we  rescued a kid that was being tortured by one of his relatives after a tip off by the residents. It was 9pm when we got information that there was a woman torturing a boy about 6 years old. Her neighbors got concerned and tried to approach her but she locked herself in her room,” a source said.

In an interview with Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, he confirmed arrest of the brutal woman.

“When our officers reached the scene, the neighbors had become violent. Our team had to carry out community policing to cool down their tempers.  The suspect was talked to and she willingly accepted to open the door and that is how we arrested her,” Onyango said.

By press time, Kukunda was still being detained at Najjera Police Station with charges of tortured preferred against her, pending advice from the Resident State Attorney.
