Nantaba Attack: Human Rights Committee of Parliament Calls for Independent Inquiry

By Francis Otucu

Committee Chair, Janepher Nantume Egunyu said the committee is concerned about what she described the pattern of events surrounding the alleged attacker of junior ICt Minister.

Unfortunately, she said: “We are continuing to receive questionable narratives from the police and eye witnesses all pointing to a prima facie case of extra judicial killing. Cognizant that it is premature to draw conclusions at this stage of a possible extra judicial killing.”

“An independent inquest in this matter should be conducted,” she noted calling on government to take swift action against senseless killings and use of unreasonable force in police operations.

“Given our violent past, the police and any other armed state organs should not be allowed to operate in a culture of almost total impunity,” she said.
