New UCC boss attributes her success to God

By Our Reporter

Back in the day she wanted to become a pilot because flying planes looked cool. In time, she fell in love with engineering. Not one to be easily intimidated, Eng. Irene Kaggwa Sewankambo, the new executive director of Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has excelled in a profession, and indeed a world, dominated by men.

Ms Kaggwa Sewankambo attributes her success story to God, who has blessed her with a solid support network, not to mention the hard work, determination and perseverance.

“Being a woman you need to work even harder,” she admits, but as her example demonstrates, with hard work and determination, you can make it,” she is quoted as saying on UCC website.

At the defunct Uganda Electricity Board (UEB) where she worked before joining UCC, it is said, men who challenged her to climb up electricity poles thinking she would hide were left in awe when she took up the challenge. That is part of the journey that prepared her for the top, where she ascended on 10th February 2020.

The top Management team at UCC has nine (9) directors of which six (6) are women. Meet the women in leadership at UCC.
