NRM eyes Muhwezi, Kidega, Migereko to replace Lumumba

While at the National Resistance movement CEC retreat in Chobe, the party Secretary General Justin Kasule Lumumba asked those in attendance to make the SG job part time.

Her argument at the time was that this would accord her some extra time to run her other businesses.

Her deputy, Richard Todwong also suggested that Secretariat staff be made to resign at least 30 days to elections as opposed to the current six months.

These deliberations, sources who attended the meeting say, gave the party something to think about; with tags wagging that the two eminent party servants may be mulling over quitting the Secretariat for, perhaps, elective politics.

Now, multiple sources we have spoken to say should this happen, three senior party members have been identified as possible replacements for the SG.

“Replacing Hon. Lumumba now would be so bad for the party. However, if she decides to go, there are options,” a source, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, said.

Impeccable sources say those being eyed include former EALA Speaker Daniel Fred Kidega, NRM CEC member Jim Muhwezi and former lands minister Daudi Migereko.

Favorite among the three, insiders say, is Migereko and Muhwezi.

However, while responding to a story carried by the Red Pepper recently, Lumumba said she is not quitting. The story had alluded to a possible Lumumba resignation.
