NRM Polls: Singh Katongole Squeezes Nyakana

BY NATHAN NGOBI

The tables could be turning  on Godfrey Nyakana , the Kampala representative on NRM central executive committee. Today while appearing on Next Radiotalk show Hard Talk, nyakana  was hard pressed by Singh Katongole to show what his leadership has done for the last five years – something he failed to account.

Singh Katongole while elucidating why many youths are being enlisted into People Power, pinned the current party leadership in Kampala for creating the vacuum.

“People power movement is eating us up because the existing leaders don’t know what challenges the youth in Kampala are facing. They are detached from the reality,” Katongole who is determined to unseat Nyakana at the ruling party’s top management organ.

Seating and evidently uncomfortable, Nyakana who is also bent on retaining his seat, blamed the party for ignoring the party structure.

“our party chairman[U1]  , president Museveni is being duped by different group, and us we are being ignored,” Nyakana said in his defence.

When challenged by Singh Katongole to demonstrate evidence that he has sought to reach out to the youth and the party chairman to discuss issues of Kampala, Nyakana said the party chairman is surrounding by people had blocked him.

Salim Uhuru who is also vying for the same slot, added salt to injury, blaming Nyakana for not returning to the masses after he was voted.

“The failure of our Kampala cec representative to be on ground opened the roads for all those groups that we see making in kampala, we are losing kampala to opposition due to poor grassroot leadership,” Uhuru said.

This is not the first time Uhuru- nyakana face off. In 2015 , uhuru trounced nyakana in the race for chairperson for kampala central in an electoral process that was characterized by hooliganism linked to \Nyakana.

The elections had to be shifted from the party division headquarters to kyadondo 10 after alleged hoolligans loyal to nyakana attempted to disrupt the voting process.

Singh Katongole in an independent interview after the show, said his coming into the race is to stop hooliganism that has taken centre stage in the party.

He said the casualtiy of this bloody clashes has made many sypporters abandon the party.

“ we are a sober party, we cannot allow hooliganism we witnessed in 2015 to reoccur in our party primaries. And the people know me , Katongole is a proactive person , and peaceful. This is the leadership that we want.” Katongole said
