By Nathan Ngobi

Olive Kigongo, the president of Uganda chambers of commerce says that she is not happy with the way her West Nile region (Arua) chairperson Debo Ronald conducts the chambers’ business following the alleged reports that he has turned the office into his personal political campaign ground for the 2026 parliamentary general elections.

Debo who replaced the Arua Central division member of parliament Atima Jackson lee Buti  for Arua and West  Nile region chairperson chambers of commerce according to information was declared unopposed using the Atima network three years back.

Reports indicate that Debo declared to unseat the incumbent Arua central city division MP Atima lee Jackson Buti come 2026 general elections.

Following the above , he (Debo) allegedly started using the chambers office and business network to mobilise for his personal political gains for the 2026 general elections.

Arua chambers of commerce coordinates the whole West Nile region bringing together over 10 districts of Koboko, Terego, Maracha, Madiokolo area, Nebbi , Yumbe,  also areas of Pakwach , Ajumani, Arua district and Arua city.

Olive Kigongo says that the chamber of commerce is not a partisan of any political organisation in Uganda because it mobilises all categories of people regardless of their political affiliation.

“Am not happy with the way Debo Ronald is conducting chambers of commerce business and we shall move to throw him out of office so that rightful people can occupy the office for better development of the business community,” Olive Kigongo said.

She said that she has received a lot of complaints about Debo misusing the chambers office for political gains but if so then he should think about quitting office and concentrate on politics.

Olive Kigongo’s bitterness follows the recent aborted launch of the NRM business chapter West Nile where Debo had invited the NRM national vice chairperson  Hajji Moses Kigongo to officiate at the function.

According to Olive Kigongo, members of the West Nile chambers of commerce rejected the move and aborted on the grounds that some of the members are from other party organisations like NUP, FDC, UPC JEMA among others.

She said that by launching the NRM business chapter at the chamber’s office would mean the chamber belongs to one political party which is not the case. The chamber of commerce is for all people regardless of colour, religion and political affiliation

Speaking to this media house Rose Munduni Emmanuel revealed that   the Arua chambers of commerce has been turned into a political campaign ground by the chairman Debo Ronald who declared his interest to unseat Atima Jackson Lee Buti for the position of Arua Central city division come 2026 general elections.

He mentioned one Miria Ahamed who collected all the Atima Lee Buti coordinators data and when he goes to the community, he instead mobilises for the interest of Debo politics arguing the business community to gunner support for Debo come 2026 general elections.

He said that Tony Ochaya the deputy to Debo and other members have tried to call for calm following rising tension over turning the chambers into a political network but nothing has been changed.

Atima Jackson Lee Buti, the Arua Central city division MP said that there are several complaints raised to the president of the Uganda chambers of commerce for action following the increased misbehavior of Debo and soon an axe will land on him.

“We have communicated many times and soon the president will act, because the Arua chambers of commerce is being destroyed yet by the time we were in charge all community business developments were done well,” Atima added.

Efforts to talk to Debo by press time failed as his known phone number was not going through.
