TORORO A 32-year-old casual worker was killed on the spot on Saturday after two trucks collided inside the Tororo Cement factory yard, police in Bukedi South Region have said.
The deceased was identified as Ochwo Yonasan, a Japadhola from Ramogi Cell, Amagoro Ward in Osukuru Town Council. According to police, he was working as a casual labourer at Tororo Cement Factory at the time of the accident.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Bukedi South Regional Police Spokesperson IP Mugwe Johnson Moses said that the crash happened on 16/08/2026 at about 11:00am within the factory premises in Tororo.
The accident involved two motor vehicles:
1. M/V Reg. No. KDQ 618U / ZD 3857 — a white Mercedes Benz Actros
2. M/V Reg. No. KCQ 045U / ZD 1932 — a white Tata truck
Police allege that Ochwo was at the rear of the Tata truck, KCQ 045U, tying a tapline when the Actros truck, KDQ 618U, came from behind and knocked it.
“The deceased was a passenger and died on spot,” IP Mugwe said.
Preliminary investigations attribute the cause of the accident to “reckless driving by the driver of M/V KDQ 618U/ZD 3857.”
Traffic officers and Scene of Crime Officers visited the scene. A sketch plan was drawn and both vehicles were escorted to Tororo Central Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.
The body of Ochwo was conveyed to Tororo Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
Police said efforts are underway to arrest the driver of the Actros truck, who fled the scene.
“We want to call upon all road users to exercise due care while using roads,” IP Mugwe added.
Investigations are ongoing.
