Owameri small scale irrigation system, commissioned yesterday in the Northern district of Alebtong is expected to benefit 400 framers in Lango, Acholi, West Nile and Upper Central sub regions of Northern Uganda.
The focus, according to Minister of Water and Environment officials, is on production of high value crops to eradicate poverty in the region.
The production of crops such as water melons, onions, cabbages, tomatoes, carrots and green paper is expected to grow.
Inspecting the project before commissioning, the Assistant Commissioner, Water for Production, Eng. John Twinomujuni commended the farmers’ efforts and hard work, advising them to continue investing in the system for sustainability.
