A 37-page report, a copy exclusively obtained by the news site shows that Kampala and its surroundings (Kampala Metropolitan), has 101 suspected cases of Coronavirus.
The report compiled between June 15, 2020 and June 21, 2020 shows that the 101 are in institutional isolation/quarantine centers.
Submitted the Inspector General of Police, Martins Okoth Ochola at 3pm, June 21, 2020, the report has a breakdown for other regions across the country.
For instance, Elgon has 144 suspected cases of COVID-19.
Others are; Kigezi (82), Albertine (32), Rwizi (56), West Nile (162), Aswa (132), Ssezibwa (15), East Kyoga (68), Mt. Greater Masaka (60), Rwenzori West (17), North Kyoga (67) Busoga East (228), N/W Nile (332), Wamala (12) and Savannah (03).
This shows that North West Nile and Busoga East regions have registered high rates of COVID-19 suspects.
The surge in number of suspects in North West Nile, according to the report, is caused by the refugees in the districts of Adjumani and Yumbe who are constantly moving to and from South Sudan.
While in Busoga East, the placing of 198 inmates on quarantine after an inmate tested positive for COVID-19 at Kaiti prison in Namutumba District hiked the number. Here, at least a good number of results have returned negative. Only results for 50 samples remain at the laboratories.
By June 22, 2020, Uganda had recorded 774 cases of COVID-19 with 631 recoveries.
