Mwanga II Magistrate’s Court in Kampala on Thursday heard that investigators recovered a deleted WhatsApp group allegedly linked to city preacher Robert Kayanja, in which members reportedly exchanged pornographic videos, photographs and messages connected to sodomy allegations.
The disclosure was made by police forensic analyst Enock Kaneene as he concluded his testimony in the ongoing criminal proceedings involving nine youths and the Rubaga Miracle Centre preacher.
Kaneene told court that during forensic extraction of mobile phone data from one of the accused, 20-year-old Reagan Ssentongo (A1), investigators recovered traces of a WhatsApp group that had earlier been deleted. According to the expert witness, the group allegedly included contacts saved as Fred Kisitu, Enock and Highway of Holiness Miracle Centre, among others.
He testified that material shared in the group included pornographic videos, photographs and messages of a sexual nature. The court session later turned tense after disagreements emerged between the prosecution led by Chief state attorney Jonathan Muwaganya and defence teams over digital evidence allegedly linked to Kayanja’s phone number.

Under questioning,
Kaneene reaffirmed that investigators established communication between A1, and a contact saved as “Mzee” in Ssentongo’s phone, and the number was later traced to Kayanja, according to the expert.
Kaneene further told court that forensic analysis showed video files had been exchanged between the two contacts before some of the files were allegedly deleted.
“As seen in my report on the CD, I managed to retrieve a chat with deleted videos which couldn’t visualize,” Kaneene told court. Although traces of the deleted files were recovered, the analyst explained that the videos could not successfully open or play during examination before court. Even so, he maintained that forensic indicators confirmed the files had once existed and had been transmitted before deletion.
The issue triggered sharp exchanges after Chief State Attorney Jonathan Muwaganya challenged the defence line of questioning, arguing that matters concerning deleted outgoing videos had not been part of earlier cross-examination.
“I object the act of bringing up new matters which were not part of my cross-examination. I therefore ask court to accord me another chance to re-examin the witness about those deleted videos because it’s a new matter which has just been raised by the defence team,” Muwaganya urged. Lawyers from Ojambo & Ojambo Advocates objected, insisting the prosecution had already completed its questioning and could not reopen fresh areas through objections.
Magistrate Adams Byarugaba intervened and allowed limited clarification on the disputed evidence before directing the witness to explain the forensic findings. Kaneene later displayed parts of the recovered WhatsApp chats before court, including deleted media files allegedly exchanged between the contacts. However, attempts to play the videos failed.
The case was adjourned to June 30, 2026, for further hearing.
