The Officer in Charge of Kitooro police station, ASP-Ruth Nabbale, has warned boda boda riders in Entebbe municipality against indulging in acts of indiscipline that tarnish the name of commercial cyclists. The Police Chief sounded the warning at Entebbe Leisure Park while addressing over 2000 boda riders and their union leaders plus their chairpersons.
Afande Nabbale said as a regular user of boda transport, it has come to her attention that some commercial cyclists lack discipline yet discipline is so fundamental in our respective societies.
The General Secretary of United Boda Boda Riders Union, John Bosco Sejembe, said as way of reorganizing the boda business they have introduced a uniform for boda riders which will bear the photo and code of the rider so as to be able to identify the undisciplined ones and those found guilty will be punished accordingly.
“ As a way for promoting sanity and reducing criminality in our respective communities , we have resolved to get uniforms for our boda riders and the uniform will bear the name of the rider and his/her code, “ Mr. Sejembe noted.
Mr. Sejembe expressed concern that in case of an accident involving a boda rider and car driver, a boda rider is always seen to be on the wrong side. He however says in order to save lives of boda riders involved in an accident the boda union has procured an ambulance which will rush the victims to the nearby health facilities .
He castigated Premier Robinah Nabanjja for delaying to implement a presidential directive to allow boda riders acquire riding permits at Shs.100,000 up from Shs 300,000.
He also lauded president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for injecting money in the boda SACCOS saying this would enable all boda riders to obtain loans at an affordable interest rate.
The chairperson of Entebbe Division ‘B’ Boda Association, Joseph Katunguka pledged to continue sensitizing fellow boda riders to observe discipline adding that he is delighted that now Entebbe has a union office which brings all boda riders together.
