Police Net Two Over Bank Fraud

By Francis Otucu

The police in Ntinda have arrested two suspects arrested for attempting to defraud a DTB bank client.

The pair, identified as David Gasumba and Mary Akello were arrested after luring a bank client out of Ntinda branch to a nearby restaurant.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Patrick Onyango confirmed the arrest.

“The duo approached a young man whom his boss had sent to go and bank two million shillings. They tried to deceive him that they had US dollars that they were interested in exchanging for Ugandan currency. They convinced the boy that he would get profit in turn. They took him out of the bank to a nearby restaurant but we had already been tipped. We went to the restaurant and arrested the duo,” Onyango said.

Onyango explained that on searching them, “We found the suspects with papers that was cut nicely into pieces to depict the size of a dollar. It was tied, one Dollar was put on one side and another dollar on the other side.”

The suspects are currently being detained at Ntinda Police Station pending court appearance.
