President Museveni Commissions St. John’s Church in Entebbe as he Urges Religious Leaders to Address Practical Human Needs.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni  encouraged Christians to take a leading role in addressing practical human challenges such as food security, health, and household incomes.

While commissioning the newly constructed St. John’s Church in Entebbe before attending a campaign rally in Entebbe Municipality, Museveni said that faith should go beyond preaching but instead address issues that affect human development.

“The mission of Christ had four dimensions: preaching the Gospel, healing the sick, feeding the hungry, and working with His hands. When people focus on only one aspect and ignore the rest, the mission becomes incomplete,” Museveni said.

Accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni, the duo were received by the Vicar, Reverend Canon Rocky Sendegeya and Head of Laity, Dr. (Phd) James Musinguzi,i who led them on a guided tour of the new facility. The tour highlighted the completed structure, which church leaders described as a product of collective sacrifice and partnership among Christians and development partners.

Addressing members of the congregation, Museveni said he was pleased to return to a place of personal and historical significance.

“Janet and I are very happy to be with you today, and I congratulate you on building this new church,” Museveni said.

He recalled that in the early years of his leadership, he and Janet worshipped at the former church, which he later learned had also been used by the colonial Governor. Museveni noted that after relocating to Kampala, they became disconnected from the church but expressed satisfaction at seeing its transformation.

Museveni confirmed that he would attend the church’s official function scheduled for 22 February 2026 and pledged to explore additional support to complete outstanding works, particularly through strengthening the church’s savings and credit cooperative.

Earlier, Reverend Canon Rocky Sendegeya welcomed Museveni and Janet back to St. John’s Church, thanking the President for his leadership and for maintaining peace in the country. He also wished him well ahead of the forthcoming elections.

The Head of Laity, Dr. James Musinguzi, outlined the background of the church project, noting that it was completed through joint efforts by the congregation and development partners.

“Working together with fellow Christians and in partnership with Tororo Cement, we were able to complete this church. Tororo Cement contributed about Shs 2.4 billion, while the church and its members contributed approximately Shs 3.6 billion, bringing the total investment to around Shs 6 billion,” Dr. Musinguzi said. He commended the congregation for their commitment and sacrifice in completing the project.
