On June 11, 2020, Uganda’s Head of Mission and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other International Organizations, Ambassador Christopher Onyanga Aparr passed on, peacefully, in his sleep, in Geneva.
The Permanent Representative to the UN, Adonia Ayebare was quick to confirm Onyanga’s death.
Recently, On July 3, 2020; Ambassadors, heads of agencies and Ugandans at Palais des Nations bid farewell to him at UN offices in Geneva. It was a huge turn up, according to Winnie Byanyima, UNAIDS Executive Director.
However, plans to return his body home for a decent send-off have been cold.
This news site can exclusively reveal that a return date has been set.
A family friend who preferred anonymity so as to speak freely told The Second Opinion that Onyanga’s body will be removed from the funeral home Wednesday July 9, 2020 and taken to Geneva Airport. The body will then be transported to Brussels on Thursday. Still on Thursday, there will be a requiem mass at his church in Geneva. His widow and orphan are expected to attend. On Friday, his body will leave for Entebbe International Airport via Kigali, Rwanda. However, before his body can set off, his widow and orphan will connect to Brussels so as to catch the same flight. The aircraft carrying Onyanga’s remains is to land at 11:30am. Upon landing, the widow, Kezia Onyanga and daughter Caroline will be escorted to a yet to identified location for quarantine. This, as has been the case with returnees, in fear of spreading COVID-19 infection in case one is positive of the virus.
His family is expected to sit on Wednesday to agree on a tentative burial program.
