Hours after Camir Nkurunziza, a former General Paul Kagame’s presidential security detail, was killed in South Africa, Rwandan government has responded.
In a statement, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs said Nkurunziza was killed after resisting arrest.
”Camille Nkurunziza, a member of terrorist organizations RNC of Kayumba Nyamwasa then FLN of Callixte Nsabimana, was also a hijacker in South Africa. He was killed yesterday evening by the Goodwood Police while resisting arrest with a knife. Once a criminal, always a criminal.” Minister Oliver Nduhungirehe said in a statement.
Nkurunziza, a Rwandan refugee in South Africa and political activist, was shot dead on Thursday in Cape Town.
He was until recently a member of the RNC, which campaigns against the government of President Paul Kagame.
Before he fled Rwanda he had served in the presidential guard.
