By Nathan Ngobi

Faruk Meywa, a senior officer at sports club Villa is languishing behind bars after he was nabbed for allegedly swindling over 3 billion Uganda shillings from a foreign investor.

Fred Enanga, the Uganda police spokesperson confirmed the arrest and told The Second Opinion that investigation into Meywa’s fraudulent actions of swindling the money is undergoing.

“Meywa reportedly deprived someone abroad whom we shall name later and conned him over 3 billion by lying that he has an organization that supports people in Uganda whose businesses are at the vague of collapse” Said Enanga.

He said that under police reference SD 56/02/08/2022 registered at Kira Division police station Faruk  Meywa  is accused of obtaining money by false pretense .

How Faruk Meywa conned the investor:-

Faruk Meywa took advantage of the COVID 19 pandemic and purportedly operated a fake loan scheme under a company East Metal plus co.Ltd.

The fake company  East metal Plus Co.Ltd Meywa as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)  claimed deals also in Gold mining in Uganda and DR Congo with head office in Kampala but has branches in Kenya,Tanzania and DR. Congo.

He could tell his prey that he gives out loans to those who were in business but affected by the Covid 19 pandemic.

According to Meywa ,  one would only  access a loan from his company after submitting a land title, photocopy of the National ID, bank statement for the previous six months , payment of search and valuation reports, Introduction letter from area LC1 chairman , Payment of the stamp duty of the total amount you require, and two passport photos.

However during one of the Juma prayers at Kibuli mosque  Faruk was introduced to some investors who had come to the country by one Nuhu as an investment facilitation provider , in the mosque Faruk claimed that he was giving out interest free loans to struggling business persons in Uganda who were hit by the COVID 19 .

He convinced the investors that he was looking for people to join him and support the poor business persons in Uganda.

Faruk positioned himself well and marketed that Ugandans in diaspora who need construction sites completed and other projects that have stagnated here in Uganda, he could offer financial support and oversight to complete and run these projects.

Faruk Meywa who one time picked nomination forms to contest for sports club Villa presidential slot and later chickened out , now after attracting  the attention of the investor who on return abroad started sending Meywa money in dollars to support the struggling business community in Uganda.

According to evidential receipts that The Second Opinion saw, Faruk Meywa  on June 25th 2022 got $ 410. 00 equivalent to 1.500,190,00 , on  2nd July 2022 he received another  $ 960 00 that  was equivalent to 3, 508, 800 Ug shs.  While on 24th June 2022 he got $ 700. 00 equivalent to  2. 540, 300 Ug shs.

Faruk kept on getting more   money to a tune of over 3 billion, he was also sent 3iphones, 13pro max( brand new) , 2pcs laptops (Dell i7 vostro 5260 12 gen)

However, shockingly when the investor came to Kampala last month to officially launch the partnership Faruk was invited at Kibuli mosque to discuss the progress of the partnership  but instead  disappeared in thin air.

A serious hunt for Faruk was conducted by security and later nabbed him hiding in a banana plantation in Kasangati .

Guilty Faruk,  profusely sweating plasma confessed and promised to refund the money  but attempts to provide security like a land title or car failed .

Meantime efforts to talk to officers from Sports club Villa by press time failed however an insider in the club disclosed that Faruk Meywa is not a member of the club but a fanatic supporter.
