KWEEN: Security operatives have recovered two guns which were stolen from police last week by thugs.
Denis Ephraim Balwanilewa, the Resident District Commissioner, Kween said that thugs attacked a police base in Mulungwa village, Benet Sub-County and forcefully made away with two AK47 rifles.
According to Balwanilewa, the thugs sneaked into the ASTU camp in Mulungwa, Benet sub-county before grabbing two guns from police ASTU officers who were on guard.
Later, he said, a joint security team of both police and the army mounted an operation in which seven thugs were netted, arrested and the guns recovered.
He revealed that the thugs were later transferred by CMI officers to Bugema, Mbale 3rd Division army headquarters for more interrogations.
Other suspects are said to be at large.
In March 2016, a group of thugs headed by a known UPDF deserter Julius Chelimo, under his purported rebel group named, Uganda Saving Forces (USF) overran Kapchorwa Police Station and took off with three guns after killing a police officer.
Chelimo was later wooed by government to surrender with his boys.
He later met President Museveni at State House Entebbe.
In relation to recent attacks, Chelimo has denied being part of it although he insists that presidential pledges to were not honored.
