SERIE! YOUTH MP RACE: Meet COVID, an aspirant who sat for O level in 2005 at 19 but still 27

By Staff Writer

For the purpose of this particular piece, we will name this ‘young man’, Covid.

He is eyeing a ruling party flag for youth Member of Parliament for one of the 5 regions of Uganda.

However, a whistle blower report to the Inspector General of Government, copied to exam body, UNEB and Council for Higher Education, his academic papers are not only wanting but his age.

For starters, he has contested for this position twice, in 2011 and in 2016, losing miserably. In as much as his papers are as good as a termite’s meal, we will stick to his age.

This news site understands, he sat for UCE in 2005. This, at a school ‘with a complex’. At the time, he was 19, according to official records. He joined a ‘doctor’ school a year later. However, he failed to make it to senior six. He repeated the same class after one year. This means that he finally sat for his UACE in 2008. Again, records show, he was 22. The whistle blower report shows the aspirant is 29 years old. This, now that he seeking to run again as Youth MP. Shocking? Women do this every day! Back home, 12 years ago (in 2008), he sat for UACE. This would mean, he was 17, not 22 and 14 at the time of sitting UCE in 2005. Don’t forget, he spent 3 years at ‘A’ (which is okay).

In Uganda, under the UPE system which this ‘young man’ went through, it takes one 11 years to climax Primary and Ordinary level of education. Going by his current claim of age, he joined Primary One at the age of 3. In his appeal to NIRA, his argument is, he has not been sure about his age but now, he says he is a born of 1991, not 1986. As a result, he wants his captured details erased and updated. Again, this is not a problem. His party Chairman has also done this. He was never sure of his age until he returned to a church he was baptized. However, for Covid, it is next to impossible and as hard as verifying the presence of locusts in Karamoja, if Covid was born in the Museveni era, yet cannot tell his date of birth. Outside 35 years, one’s date of birth was tagged along harvest season, no particular date was pointed. But at least, this has been an achievement of NRM – record keeping. Important to note, law enforcers have been alerted and await him at nomination form picking Centre.

In our next serie, we formally profile this aspirant!
