Singo Barracks: Training bullet kills man attending to garden

By Francis Otucu

Death by shooting has been recorded Vide BUK CRB 138/2019 at Buomero Police Station, Kiboga.

This after an alleged stray bullet from Singo Barracks shot and killed Gordon Kizito, 40, on Thursday.

The incident happened at Kibaanda village, Kikooba Parish in Bukomero. Sources say the incident was as a result of an on-going training at Singo.

“The garden of the deceased is very near to the Barracks. He was allegedly hit by a stray bullet coming from Singo Barracks while the now deceased was digging in his garden at Kibaanda. He died instantly. The bullet is suspected to have come from military training that was going on inside the barracks by the UPDF,” a source said. Regional Police Spokesman Norbert Ochom confirmed the incident but declined to reveal the stage of investigation.

A source who preferred anonymity given he not authorized to speak for the force, particularly that region said: “The police are working with the Barracks authorities at Singo to find solutions to this problem.”

By press time, the DPC-Kiboga had visited the scene while the deceased body had been taken to Bukomero Health Center for postmortem and identification by relatives.
