Ssekandi in Maputo for swearing in of President Nyusi

The Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi is in Mozambique capital of Maputo to attend the swearing in ceremony of President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, who won his second term in office during last year’s general elections held in October.

Ssekandi was yesterday received at Maputo International Airport by the Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs Damasco Mathe will be joining other Heads of State and Government expected to grace the Thursday function at the Maputo Public squire.

Nyusi of Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo) party emerged victorious in last October’s presidential elections with a 73 percent margin of the total vote winning 184 seats in Parliament, while with RENAMO Party securing 60 seats and the MDM party getting the remaining six in the National Assembly. During a 51 percent voter turnout, according to the country’s electoral commission.

Nyusi who was a defence Minister until 2008, before running for the office of President 2015 and won on the ruling FRELIMO party that has led the country since its Independence in 1975 will be the fourth President of Mozambique.

According to the Council of Ministers of Mozambique. 12 heads of state have confirmed their presence at the inauguration ceremony of the country’s re-elected president and More than 3,000, delegates and envoys will participate in the event scheduled to take place Thursday January 15, 2020.
