Tension At Speaker Anita Among’s Residence As Her Bodyguard Shots Innocent Woman

Tension flared  on April 30,2026, at Speaker Anita Among’s Residence along MacKinnon road in Kampala City as her bodyguard lost cool and shot at an innocent woman who was driving a Toyota Harrier registration number UBQ 038A. 

The victim was reportedly shot after she had just left afternoon prayers at All Saints Cathedral, when she turned onto MacKinnon Road towards the Speaker’s residence, a highly sensitive security area.

Following the incident, police have arrested one of it’s own uniformed officer to help in investigations into the shooting of an innocent woman. Police identified the suspect as Corporal Humphrey Muhanguzi, who is currently freezing behind bars at CPS Kampala .

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokeswoman, Racheal Kawala, confirmed the incident and the arrest of speaker’s bodyguard revealing that police successfully seized the gun that was allegedly used by the suspect in the shooting. She added that they’re looking for the victim to question her over the incident.

“We have picked interest in the incident and investigations are ongoing. We are tracing for the victim,” Afande Kawala revealed.

The Director Communication and Public Affairs at the Parliament of Uganda, Chris Obore, has said that there was an altercation between the female driver and Among’s body guard prior to the shooting.

“There was an altercation between the female driver and policeman on Mackinon road which is   under construction. The Speaker was in Bukedea. During the altercation the victim insisted on using the road against policemen advise. The irked bodyguard banged the car bonnet with a gun and incidentally bullet discharged” Obore narrated on his X account.

The Speaker’s Principal Press Secretary Joseph Sabiti, said at the time of the occurrence of the incident, the speaker was traveling from Bukedea, where she had gone to attend a family event, dismissing earlier reports that the female driver was shot and injured by a police guard after she allegedly refused to heed to instructions to stop and allow the convoy of the Speaker to pass.

“While enroute from Bukedea, where she had gone to attend a family event, the Kampala Metropolitan Police informed the Rt Hon Speaker about an incident that had occurred near her residence, involving a police officer and a female driver, while she was not at home” Sabiti posted on his X account.
