The police are investigating circumstances under which a 45-year old man was killed by mob. The deceased has been identified as Kowa Opendo, a fisherman in Luyombo, Najja Sub County in Buikwe district.
Regional Police spokeswoman, Hellen Butoto confirmed the incident to The Second Opinion, saying that Opendo was killed by unidentified people who he found trying to steal his cows that were grazing.
“Opendo got hold of one of them while others scattered. However, his attackers regrouped later, and realized one of their colleagues was missing, so they returned to rescue him. They found Opendo taking the suspect to the LCI Chairman’s office and they beat him up. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Najja Health Centre after naming one of his attackers,” she said.
Butoto added: “The police have visited the scene. Opendo’s body has been taken to Kawolo Mortuary for postmortem.” Butoto also confirmed arrest of one person to help in investigation. The suspect has been identified as Ronald Kiduudu. He is currently being held at Lugazi Police Station. She noted that another suspect, Moses Wanyina is still at large. Further investigations, she said, are ongoing Vide SD Ref 07/18/01/2019.
In a related development, it has been established that angry residents of the area attacked the home of the suspected thugs and burnt to death one person identified as Christopher Namanda to ashes.
